A Dobutamine Stress Test is a specialized heart evaluation used when a person cannot perform exercise on a treadmill. Instead of physical activity, a safe, controlled medication called dobutamine is used to gently increase the heart’s workload. This helps assess how well the heart pumps blood under stress. Under the supervision of Dr. Vaibhav Shukla, the test is performed with continuous monitoring to ensure comfort and safety throughout.
This test is helpful for individuals who:
Are unable to walk on a treadmill due to joint pain, weakness, or mobility issues
Have symptoms like chest discomfort, breathlessness, or unexplained fatigue
Need evaluation for coronary artery disease
Require pre-surgery heart assessment
Need follow-up after previous cardiac treatment
It provides clear insights into heart function without requiring physical exertion.
You’ll be connected to ECG, blood pressure, and oxygen monitors. Dobutamine is slowly given through an IV line, causing your heart to beat slightly faster—similar to light exercise. Ultrasound images (echocardiography) are taken during the process to observe heart muscle movements, blood flow, and pumping strength.
If you feel discomfort at any point, the medication is stopped immediately. The entire test usually takes around 20–30 minutes.
With years of experience in advanced cardiac diagnostics, Dr. Vaibhav Shukla ensures every Dobutamine Stress Test is performed with precision, clear communication, and strict safety measures. His expertise allows for accurate interpretation, helping detect early heart concerns and guide the right treatment plan.
